Share Your Narro Podcast as A Web Page

Narro accounts can now share listen to their podcast as a web page - purely online! Now, you don’t even have to use a podcast player.

You can find your personal link and instructions on the Narro Recommended Players page. Just bookmark your URL and brand new readings will always populate for you (or anyone you share it with) to listen to online. You can even link to it from your website!

For anyone interested in how this is possible, Narro has open-sourced the library used to render these online podcasts. Pb, a podcast embedding library, is freely available to fork or use in any project. You can also browse other Narro open-source code.

Submit Your Narro Podcast to iTunes

Any Narro account can now submit their personal podcast to the public iTunes podcast directory! The only prerequisite before submitting is to open your account and choose an iTunes podcast Category under which you want to appear.

By submitting your Narro podcast to iTunes, you can allow anyone using iTunes to subscribe and listen along to the articles you find.

This is an entirely optional feature. You can find instructions on submitting your Narro feed to iTunes on Apple’s website.

If This Then Listen [on Narro]

Hey there all you automation fiends – Narro has an IFTTT channel! What’s IFTTT, you say? It stands for If This Then That and it’s a super simple way to automate interactions between your favorite apps. It’s basically a flow of commands that tell different apps to talk to each other, and who doesn’t like staying in the flow?

For example, if an email labeled “trendy” arrives in your inbox, you can use IFTTT to automatically read that email in your Narro podcast. Or if an article is submitted to your Narro feed, you can use IFTTT to then add a notification to a Slack channel. The possibilities are nearly endless.

At this point you are only a few steps away from being able to crank your productivity up to 11. To set up automations in IFTTT you simply create what’s called a “Recipe.” By connecting any of the available channels with Narro you can create “Triggers,” which is the “If” part, that then have corresponding “Actions,” the Then part. Sprinkle in some zesty “Ingredients,” which are pieces of data from a Trigger, and dinner is served (or rather, you want to learn something new every day so you subscribe to the article of the day from Wikipedia).

You can check out the Narro IFTTT channel here – https://ifttt.com/channels/narro For those of you that want to jump right into the fun, we’ve already created a bunch of Recipes to get you going. Here are some highlights:

Narro’s public API enabled this IFTTT integration.

Are you a developer using the Narro API? We want to hear about what you’re working on, as well as let you know when there are updates to our documentation. We created a mailing list exclusively for our developer community.

Narro gets an audio logo today! After a few requests by customers, Narro readings now have a signature logo tone.

It’s a nice little notification that your reading has finished playing. Of course, you can opt out in your account settings.

Narro Is Now SSL Everywhere

Last week, Narro went fully-SSL! Now, everyone can enjoy a higher level of security when submitting payments and passwords.

You can learn more about SSL if you like, or simply relax and know that Narro has your back.

Part of this update improved the reliability of loading articles in your Narro feed. Previously, some browsers didn’t like the advanced technology used on Narro’s site. Now, with SSL site-wide, things will be less finicky.

New Ways to Stay Updated

Over the last few weeks, we’ve been releasing new ways to stay abreast of Narro developments.

Status Page

There’s now a Narro API status page that you can check day and night. That’s where we will be posting about any problems or upcoming maintenance.

If you’re a fellow developer, you may be interested in the framework we made for our static status page, hosted on GitHub: Staticus.

Now Page

Inspired by customer inquiries about Narro’s future, we created a page at narro.co/now to show upcoming features. You can check back there now and again for potential futures, or you can submit your own!

Narro For iOS is Here

screenshot

After hard work and support from the Narro community, the native iOS app for Narro is available for download!

I couldn’t be more grateful to Narro’s team of beta testers. I’ll be releasing advancements for the app in the future, with your continued support. Others have already asked about the future for a Narro Android app (I’ll be working on it!).

Narro Still Improving

Right now, I’m building a native iOS app for Narro that will enable Narro submissions right from the native share actions within any app.

I’ve also been building out the API around Narro, which can now be found at narro.co/developer. The direct API is only one piece - you can now let any visitor to your site “Listen to this page on Narro!” with embeddable buttons. I am using it on my own site.

I want to thank everyone for their support, so I’m giving away some Narro Pro coupons. The first 25 people to sign up for Narro Pro with the coupon code narrolove will get 25% off for the lifetime of their account!

I’ve also launched some Narro shirts and clothing! I’ve already ordered one for myself.

A Chorus of Voices

Cats

On suggestion from a Narro Pro, you can now listen to multiple voices in rotation! Just go to your default voice settings and you now have the option to create a rotation of high-quality Narro voices. Once chosen, when you submit a reading to Narro, one of these voices (including your default voice) will be selected at random and used for the reading.

Now you can add a little variety to your Narro readings! Remember, you can also follow @NarroApp for other, smaller enhancements and tips.
